Habitat Welcomes Wounded Warriors for 10th Annual Visit

Each year US military veterans who have endured life altering injuries while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces are medically cleared to take part in the Wounded Warriors program on Bonaire. This year eight veterans and their partners will spend one week on Bonaire receiving their scuba diving certifications, enjoying the therapeutic waters of Bonaire as well as taking part in the variety of dining options and activities Bonaire has to offer.

The Wounded Warriors program was founded with the idea “to provide therapy through diving”. More than a vacation, the dive training and diving are valuable therapy for veterans who have a variety of injuries ranging from paralysis to amputations sustained while serving in the US Armed Forces. Along with the physical injuries and lengthy rehabilitation, many veterans and their loved ones face the emotional stress and trauma of return from service, living with a disability and the strain of rehabilitation.

Wounded Warriors Bonaire gives veterans and their significant others a much needed emotional and physical space together with other veterans in similar situations. Captain Don’s Habitat is proud to offer all lodging and all diving for the entire group for the week as it has done since the program began in 2006.

All aspects of this trip including organization, meals, activities and entertainment are made possible with generous donations from around the island and abroad.
