Eco Challenge

Monday evening, July 14th, marked the beginning of an exciting new initiative to decrease the amount of plastic debris entering Bonaire’s already over-burdened landfill.  In keeping with Habitat’s leading role in environmental conservation with projects such as their Advanced Waste Water Treatment system, General Manager Jack Chalk announced this new eco-project at Habitat’s “Meet the Captain” weekly cocktail party.

Effective, July 15th, whenever a new guest checks in at the resort, they will receive a FREE sport water bottle with an explanation and recommendation to utilize Bonaire’s clean, great tasting desalinated sea water from the tap instead of purchasing commercially bottled water.

In conjunction with the FREE sport water bottle give away, both Habitat and Rum Runners will cease the sale of commercially bottled water.  By doing so, stated General Manager Chalk, “we will effectively reduce the amount of plastic waste entering Bonaire’s landfill”.  Everyone in attendance at the “Meet the Captain” cocktail party on Monday evening received one of the FREE sport water bottles.  The response was overwhelmingly positive from the 100 or so persons who received FREE bottles at the "Meet the Captain" party.

The FREE Sport Bottles, with both Rum Runners and Habitat’s logo emblazoned on them, have a wide mouth opening to facilitate the addition of ice, have an extended contour grip neck and are BPA free.  The FREE Sport Bottles are all molded from 60 -70% home recycled plastic.  Extra bottles will also be available for purchase in the Capt’s Locker and at Rum Runners Restaurant for those guests that would like to have extra’s or to take home as gifts to friends and will also be available for those wishing to participate in reducing plastic waste on Bonaire but are not staying at Habitat.
