2008 Coral Spawn and Love Our Planet Week
Bonaire's 2008 September coral spawning and "Love Our Planet Week" coincide this year. Don't miss this opportunity to see the miracle of coral spawning as can only be witnessed on the pristine reefs of Bonaire. For the second year in a row, Captain Don's Habitat will be the Host Hotel for "Love Our Planet Week".
Join our very special guests, Ed Clark and Stephen McCulloch as they share the research, care and rehabilitation efforts of their respective organizations with you. They will also be conducting guided dives with guests and participants during the week.
Ed is Co-Founder and President of the Wildlife Center of Virginia. The Center is globally recognized as a premier wildlife veterinary medicine training institution, and has done a remarkable job of helping people understand the connections between natural systems, wild animals, and human health. Active in tracking West Nile Virus and other pathogens, this year the Center received support from the Institute for Defense and Homeland Security to create the North American Wildlife Disease Surveillance Network, an effort to watch for natures warning signs that may signal bioterrorism threats against the U.S.
Steve is the Executive Director of the Division of Marine Mammal Research and Conservation at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute located in Ft. Pierce, Florida. The Division of Marine Mammal Research and Conservation (DMMRC) at HBOI has multifaceted biomedical research, education and conservation programs involving various marine mammal species around the world. Present research programs are documenting the cause of marine mammal strandings, the effects of harmful algal bloom biotoxins and the identification of emerging diseases in these species.
There will also be experts from other organizations such as the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) here that week to entertain, enlighten and educate you on the wonders of our coral reefs here in Bonaire and around the world and offer tips, techniques and ways you can make a positive difference to coral reefs around the world and our water planet.
Habitat is offering a "Pay 6 Get 7 Nights" special this week. Be sure and book your reservation now for this exciting and educational week.
